Use Your Words - October 2014

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

I’m using: smoke ~ hot burner ~ mom, the toilet broke ~ you did what

They were submitted by: http://spatulasonparade.blogspot.com

So, I thought I would do another free association with my words. I have some stories for each set but not really anything that I could string together into one story.

SMOKE - Ahhh, that's a good word. Imagine this.

You are talking on the telephone in your bathroom

(to avoid interruptions). You are looking out the

window and watching your 2 oldest sons setting up a

fire to dispose of some downed tree branches.

There's a bit of smoke as the branches try to catch.

Then next thing you see is your oldest son

approaching the fire with the gas container.

You start screaming!! NOOOO!!! NOT ON THE

FIRE!!!!!

You know that you just avoided a major trip to the

ER!

HOT BURNER - Ahh, another image of my oldest son

comes to mind. SIGH....

He's about 7. You have just been cooking supper.

He goes into the kitchen. At some point he lays his

hand on the hot burner. But does he tell you this??

NOOOOO!!!!! You notice the black marks on his hand

while giving him a bath. Weird, they won't come off.

Jacob, what's on your hand??

Oh, nothing. I burnt my hand on the stove today.

WHAT?????

MOM, THE TOILET IS BROKEN - How many times

have I heard those words??? I couldn't possibly say. A good

estimate would be about a million. I hear them at

least once a month, AT LEAST!!!

As a matter of fact, when we were staying in the

hotel I heard them at least twice a week.

But there were a few times that it wasn't actually

the fault of any of MY children.

I used to babysit to make extra money. There was

this one little girl that just LOOOOVED to put things

in my toilet. The most memorable items would be

the boys toy Pokemon. SIGH... I finally stopped

babysitting her. I couldn't afford all the plumbing

bills!!

YOU DID WHAT -  A phrase that comes out of my mouth on a daily basis.

SIGH.....

But here's one you might not expect...

Once again I am in the bathroom trying to talk on the phone. There's a knock at

the door. It's Deanna.

Momma! I just got bit by a cat!

WHAT??????

I open the door and there she stands with her hand dripping blood in several places.

WHAT HAPPENED???

I tried to catch a cat.

YOU DID WHAT???

I tried to catch a feral cat. It was hungry so I took it some food. Then it looked really thirsty but I was afraid it would run away so I grabbed it to take it to some water. It went all ninja kitty on me.

And that's how Deanna ended up getting rabies shots plus tetanus and antibiotic shots.

SIGH................

There you have it folks! Free association! LOL

Don't forget to click all the links and see what words everyone else has to use!

I wonder who got mine!!!

  6. I know the plumbing situation too well. With my 3 alone, they put in stuff like forks and spoons, but the most memorable was my cell phone. Now you think that's because the cell phone is important, but no. It's memorable because it was stuck so bad, when the plumber tried to snake it out, it broke the porcelain. Even with the porcelain broke, you still couldn't unjam that phone. The toilet was replaced, and the old one thrown away with cell phone stuck inside.

  9. I'd like to say that I love these stores because they all did make me laugh but since they're about disasters . . .
Given what my post was about today, yours made me feel a little less all alone in looking at my kids and thinking "what the hell were you thinking."

    1. LOL!! Glad to help out. Hopefully you won't need it BUT if you ever do, just ask. I have PLENTY of stories like those. PLENTY!!!
Like the time Jacob had to have 8 staples in his foot. Or when he broke his hand. Or when he had to have his forehead glued. Or when he had to have his hair tied together to close the scalp wound.... The list goes on and on and on....

  10. Between you and Karen, geez! I'm not going to survive my kids growing up - they're already bad enough. Effing daredevils.

    I'm glad everyone survived, though!
