The Salem Witch Trials - Resources for a Unit Study
We are sooooooo far behind. SIGH.... I've been sick, the kids have been sick... It's been ugly. We haven't accomplished much, just some educational TV watching. LOL
The last history post I did was on early settlers. The next on my list would be the Salem Witch Trials. I was sort of surprised at how little there is out there on the topic. When I thought about it more I realized that I didn't really hear a lot about it in school either. Interesting. When you factor in that it was brought on by a group of "mean girls" you have a lot to teach about, the consequences of our actions toward others, tolerance for differences, being nonjudgmental, etc. It was a horrifically brutal time in our history and there's definitely a lot to be learned from it even in this day an age. Maybe MORE so in this day and age, when a beautiful commercial about America sung in so many beautiful languages can bring about ugliness from so many.
Before using these resources, think about YOUR kids. Know what they will be able to handle discussing.
As always, I try to include resources for a variety of ages.
All printable resources are free unless marked with $$$.
I encourage you to read reviews before deciding which books to use with YOUR children. Know your kids and how they will react to the ugliness. Be prepared to discuss all the issues.
