USE YOUR WORDS - September 2015

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

I’m using:
robust ~ strength ~ core ~ phoenix ~ blue ~ mother

They were submitted by: Sparkly Poetic Weirdo

She had a large, robust family and she took great pride in it. Her children were her everything. Her reason to keep going in a difficult life. Being a mother was the most important thing in the world to her, her reason for being. Her reason for breathing.
But things happen, like they always do.
Her family was torn apart by a monster.
She had to go. She took most of the children with her but one chose to remain behind.
The pain in her heart from the one child deciding not to go with her nearly tore her heart in two.  Her blue eyes were constantly swimming in tears.
But she had to find the strength in her core to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of heartbreak, violence and betrayal.
She had to keep going on the hope that one day all of her children would one day be under her roof, safe, sound and happy as they had never before been.

Well, we've started up another homeschooling year. We are another student short. Joshua graduated at the end of last school year. Sniff!! Sniff!!

We are now the proud members of 2 homeschooling groups! WOO HOO!!!
Cailey and Colin took their first Art & Architecture class this week.

We also had our 3 meet up with our other homeschool group. FUN TIMES!!!!

We built a tabletop siege engine!!

To check out our homeschool adventures just search for Our Week in Review! I'll have a new one up tomorrow!

Now, on to the craziness!!

Me
The Hubby
Jacob - 20 year old son
Joshua - 18 year old son
Deanna - 17 year old daughter
Cailey - 10 year old daughter
Colin - 7 year old son
Cloud and Derpy - our cats

Cailey - Jacob and his friends just came in downstairs. They had a guitar and a box of pizza. I don't know what they were doing.

******************************************

Colin - Hey! I got it and I just met that sound!!

(He's learning to read using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and it's WORKING!!!)

******************************************

Deanna is helping Colin with his math. She says, "It's 4 and 1 0." He writes 410. She says, "No, I meant 4 and then a 0!"

******************************************

Deanna and I are discussing her psychology course. Cailey pipes up and says - Hesitating can lead to spasms and hallucinations!
Deanna and I try to control it but we lose. We burst out laughing. WHAT????
Cailey - Well, I heard it on "Gumball".

Deanna and I continue laughing for the next 30 minutes. Apparently we both had the same picture in our heads.
Do you know QWOP???? Just try it and you will see what I mean. ;)

******************************************

Deanna walks into the schoolroom the other morning.
Colin seeing Deanna's new zit - EWWW! WHAT is THAT????

******************************************

Deanna - One Direction has a new perfume out. I wonder what it smells like?
Me - Desperation???

******************************************

Deanna and I are running errands.

Deanna - I have never been in a bank before. What's it like?
Me - Boring.

We walk into the bank and are immediately set upon by 2 men. One is a financial manager and the other is the bank manager.

The financial manager - I love your shirt! I haven't seen one of those in a long time.
(I'm wearing my Orange Crush t-shirt)
Me - Oh! I just got it at Penney's!
Him - Recently?
Me - Yeah, about a month ago. They have Dr. Pepper, Pepsi. They even had old Guns n Roses!
Him - No way!!
Deanna says something about GnR.
Him - You know GnR???
Deanna - Sure! I know all kinds of music. Beatles, Bob Marley.
The Bank Manager - You know Bob Marley??
He looks at his friend and says - Y'know, I when to Marley's grave and talked with his other friend.
The Financial Manager - What?
BM- Yeah... I TALKED with his OTHER friend. I think the SMOKE is going over your head!
FM - OOOOH!!! You're lucky the cameras don't have sound!

We someone how got to discussing anarchy.
FM - I don't need this stinkin' tie! I don't need these stinkin' shoes or this suit!!!
BM - Hey! The cameras! The cameras!!

Deanna - I thought you said banks were boring.

******************************************

Deanna - I just saw a ton of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff! Too bad I already bought Jacob's Birthday presents. I don't like him THAT much.

******************************************

Deanna rushes over to my seat with her Algebra book (she's reviewing) and says - OK! Explain THIS!!!

I show her just exactly why it is the way it is.

Deanna - Ok. But what about THIS ONE!!!

I show here, again, just why it is the way it is.

Deanna - Oh. Darn. I thought I had something on Algebra....

Me - You can never have anything on Algebra.

******************************************

Cailey - I want to hear someone say the alphabet but not using the letter names, only the sounds.

I comply and hilarity ensues.

******************************************

Colin was practicing his writing and forgot how to write an L. I throw my fingers up to show him what they look like. Deanna freaks out because she thinks I shot Colin the bird.

Me - WHY would I do that????

Deanna - I don't know. I thought maybe you had finally had enough.... It's not the first time I thought you shot someone the bird.

We were walking out of the grocery store one morning and an elderly couple stopped and let us pass. I thew up my hand in a little wave.

Deanna - WHY did you do that?

Me - Do what??

Deanna - Shoot them the bird!!!

Me - WHAT??? I waved at them!!!!

Secret Subject Swap - September 2014

Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week, 11 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

Here are links to all the sites now featuring Secret Subject Swap posts.  Sit back, grab a cup, and check them all out. See you there:

Your “Secret Subject” is:
If you had a dream that you were Dorothy and landed in Oz, who in your life or that you've met would be the Wicked Witch, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion? Why?
It was submitted by: http://climaxedtheblog.blogspot.com

I have been thinking about this prompt ever since I received it. I <3 The Wizard of Oz. I even dressed up as Dorothy for a chorus performance once. I sang "Over the Rainbow" of course.

So, who would be the Wicked Witch? I'm afraid I can't tell you that one.... LOL But there are at least 3 people in the running.

The Tin Man - Well, if you'll remember the Tin Man had heart ALL ALONG! He didn't really need the Wizard of Oz to give him one. So, with that in mind, my oldest daughter Deanna. She has so much heart!!!!

The Scarecrow - Again, if you'll remember, the Scarecrow had brains the whole time. More than most of the others. LOL My 2nd oldest son, Joshua, would be my Scarecrow.

The Cowardly Lion - What a misnomer. He might have been a little afraid of somethings but when push came to shove he was in it all the way. The most fearless person I know is my oldest son, Jacob.

Most important, they (other than the witch) were all the closest people to Dorothy.

Hmm... Didn't I just do a post like this?? Yes, I did!

When I first got the prompt I was a little worried. I can't call anyone DUMB! Or Heartless! But then I thought about it more. The whole thing with the movie was that everyone already had what they needed inside them. Isn't that true of most of us?? If you dig deep enough don't we all have what we need to get by already within us??

OH, BOY!! Do I have some GREAT stuff for you this month!!! I remembered to write it all down AND I kept up with the list!! Am I on top of things or what???? LOL

Let me set the scene for you....

Deanna has gone out the front door to put the trash bag in the can. I am sitting at the dining room table typing away on my laptop.

She opens the front door to come back in the house. She then slams the door and has a look of absolute shock and horror on her face like she has just seen a horrible accident.

Me - Are you OK? What happened?

Deanna - I almost DIED!

Me - OMGOSH! Come here! Are you OK? What HAPPENED???

Deanna - I was.. I was... ATTACKED BY A SQUIRREL!!!

Me - Wha?????

Deanna - OMG!! I think it was rabid.

Me - WHAT happened???

Deanna - I was just minding my own business and taking the trash out. I heard a scratching sound but thought it was a stray cat. I tossed the bag into the can and then a NINJA SQUIRREL jumped out. It almost got me. It jumped on the tree all upside-down and ninja-like! I could have DIED!!!

Me - *hysterical laughter*

Deanna - What's so funny???? I was nearly killed by a psychotic squirrel!!!! LOOK! It's still out there??? What was it doing in the trash can anyway??? Squirrels are herbivores! It was DEFINITELY rabid!

Me - We do eat vegetables on occasion.....

Deanna -  Not that often.

The next day -

Deanna comes running through the door.

Deanna - It's still out there! It's trying to get me! I saw it trying to get into the chimney by my room!!!

Deanna - Every since I had that dream about Big Bird, I just can't look at him the same.

(She apparently had a nightmare that Big Bird tried to kill her.)

Me - At least you didn't dream that you had to shoot Dan Aykroyd with a crossbow in a biker bar!

Hey, he was trying to kill me!!!

So, I'm scrolling through Facebook and I happen to see a similar ecard to the one above. Only, this one didn't have the German on it. I had to look that up.

ANYWAY, I start shouting "ICH LIEBE DICH!" Scared Deanna half to death. It was awkward for a moment.

Afterwards she got into the spirit and we freaked the rest of the house out. ;)

Cailey loves all animals and I do mean ALL. She came in from outside one evening with a handful of slugs! She was having a good ol' time playing with them.... UNTIL she realized how hard it was to get all the slime off of her hands.

Deanna and I were watching America's Cutest Pet when she says, "OMGOSH! I am so dumb!"

Me - What?? You're not dumb!

Deanna - Oh, you have NO idea! You just have NO idea about what I almost did!

Me - Well, now you have to tell me.

D - No way!!!!

Me - Oh, yes! You can't just say something like that and leave it hanging. Nuh, unh! You better spill!

D - Well..... SIGH..... OK..... I saw that cute little kitty and I ..... umm.... was getting ready to try to call it out of the tv....

Me - *hysterical laughter*  FLY ON THE WALL!!!!!

Jacob and Joshua were playing Timesplitters.

Joshua - I kept shooting and shooting! I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any points! THEN I realized.... I am ON the red team!!!

Joshua - I still can't get over the name that Live gave me. SIGH..... Crabbyblock ***????? REALLY????

Setting the scene -

Cailey and Colin have a friend (we'll call her K) over and they are running all over the house playing. I am sitting at the dining room table (yep, on my laptop) and Jacob and Joshua are in the living room playing a game.

K - Spell i puppy.

Cailey - I p u p p y. HUH???

Then the giggles start.

Jacob - What?? i-p-u-p-p-y???  (his voice holds a note of bewilderment) i-p  u-p-p y??? (you can hear his eyes rolling at this point)

Jacob to Joshua - That's not even close! When we were kids we were cool. It was spell I cup. HA! MUCH better!

Me - *hysterical laughter*

The boys continue on in this vein for quite a while.

Joshua - Googley Elmo invented the radio.

Me - What?????

Joshua - Yeah, Googley Elmo.

Me - Marconi invented the radio.

Joshua - Yeah, Googley Elmo Marconi.

Me - OH, you mean Guglielmo Marconi.

Joshua - That's what I said. Googley Elmo!

We are traveling back from Hilton Head when we see the above sign.

My Dad - Hey! Look! There's the Bat Cave!

Colin - Na na na na na BATMAN!!!!

Sooo... Jacob and Joshua were playing against each other on Just Dance 4 the other night.... They actually got into an argument over who did better. Joshua seems to have skunked Jacob on Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up, while Jacob trounced Joshua on Selena Gomez's Love Song. Yeah.... It was a strange, strange night.

The Fog at the Cabin in the Woods on Friday the 13th.... That's where you can read the full story. Here are some of the parts that I left out.

Me, practically standing in the creek while yelling up at my phone - JOSHUA, IF YOU CAN HEAR ME, WE CAN'T GET OUR CELLS TO WORK. CAN'T CALL YOU!!!

Me, putting the worms on the hook for Cailey. Yes, I can bait my own hooks. I just don't like to if I can keep from it. BLECK!!!!

Me, the look on my face the ENTIRE time we were there.......

Deanna  when she realizes no cell phone reception also means no wi-fi.

Cailey and Colin when they realize no cable.

Deanna's face when she realizes that I was NEVER exaggerating about the humidity in Nashville.

The Hubby's face when my mother-in-law pulled out a TON of baby pics of him and started passing them around. My fave was the one with him on the toilet. ;)

Poor Cailey at my mother-in-law's house when her dog realizes that she is the only one scared of him. Poor Cailey was shaking like a leaf! Thor wouldn't leave her alone.

Oh, and Thor looks like this

He's at least part Min Pin.

Sooo, it was a little late when we started heading back home. Deanna was riding up front with me and we may have had a little too much caffeine...... Everyone else was asleep, which just proves my theory that they can sleep through ANYTHING!

Anyway.... We were listening to the radio and getting a little loopy and silly. We did the opera voices to "We Are the Champions." Pretty soon things got out of hand and we started changing the lyrics to all the songs to stuff about pie. Yeah, pie..... Deanna outdid herself. ;)

So, did you make it through all of that? Still with me?? Then you most definitely want to check out the other blogs on the list. They are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
