What is your oldest piece of clothing, does it still fit, and why do you still have it?

It was submitted by: The Most Awesome, the Queen of Secret Subjects and Flies.....  Karen from Baking in a Tornado

At first I was stumped. I have been pregnant 5 TIMES!! My weight has been up and down and up and down. I change sizes more than the kids change channels... Then I thought, well, I have some shoes I've had for a while. But even those I give away after a few years.... Hmmm... Then it hit me. There's one item of clothing that I have had for 20 YEARS!! Yes! 20 YEARS!!!!

Mountaineers 006

My WVU Mountaineers Football jersey!!!! It still fits (just not as loosely as it once did) and I wear it a ton during football season. ;)

This jersey has seen some up and downs... Some wins and some loses..... Some players and coaches come and go.... It has seen A LOT!!!

Hmmm... maybe IT should do the Fly on the Wall. LOL

Speaking of gaining and losing weight (I think this fits with the topic). I have been back on the Atkins Diet for 2 wks now and I am down 9 lbs!!! YIPPPPEEE!!!!!!!

I am done with the meds that make me gain weight. I am done with the birth control methods that make me gain weight. I am done with eating my feelings!!!!  I am taking control of my body again!!! I managed to have 3 kids without adding more than 10 lbs. After I had Deanna I was on the Depo Provera shots for a year. I gained more in that year than I ever did while pregnant with the kids. I went off it after that. It had completely messed up my system and doctors thought that I would never be able to get pregnant again. HA! Thankfully they were wrong! 7 years later I had Cailey. After I had her I went on Atkins and lost 45 lbs in 3 months. I managed to keep it all off until I got pregnant with Colin. Now, I had my tubes tied AFTER having Cailey. No, I didn't have it reversed.... So, after I had Colin, it would have been a more intense surgery for them to try to tie them again. Instead of going through all of that I used the Mirena..... BIG MISTAKE!!!! It happens that anything that disrupts my monthly... ummm... visitor, also makes me gain weight. Fun. Add on top of that the fibromyalgia, depression, and medications and you have a major weight gain.  More fun... I'm not nearly brave enough to say just how much weight I gained... Maybe one day once I can put all of  this behind me... I am still entirely too vain to put it out there. LOL But I'm trying very hard and it's a lot of work. Don't ever let anyone tell you that it isn't. It's an uphill battle all the way.  I don't know if this will ultimately have anything to do with the fibro but it sure couldn't hurt.

Wish me luck!! Send prayers!!!

Shew! It feels good to get some of that off my chest. ;)

Now for some smiles to lighten the mood!

  1. I LOVE that you have a shirt that's seen it all!

And I'm so glad to hear you're able to get off some of your meds and are being proactive in taking control of your life and health. Hope you keep us updated.

  2. Thanks, Karen!! It feels so much better to be at least trying! LOL I still have a long way to go but at least I'm moving in the right direction!

  3. So...wait....you had your tubes tied and then got pregnant? MY WORST FEAR! I've had mine clamped for almost 4 years, after I had Cailin. I've been pregnant 5 times, and I've had 3 miscarriages. My pregnancy with the twins wasn't that hard, but Cailin gave me problems and we just decided that 3 is enough.

I have the pair of shorts that I bought when I was pregnant with the twins that I still sleep in. They are 9 years old and have holes in them, but SOOOO comfy!

Congrats on the weight loss. I love my carbs too much to give them up, but I need to get back into working out!

  4. My reply disappeared.... SIGH...
Yep. I had them (supposedly) cut, tied and burned and STILL got pregnant. Of course, we are thrilled to have Colin but now I will be scared to death until menopause! LOL
With the FMS it's very hard to work out. Shoot, most days it's very hard to just get out of bed. So, it's drastic diet time.
    SIGH......

  5. I think it's so awesome you've had that jersey for over 20 years!

Good luck on your healthy eating endeavor! I stopped eating my emotions, but then I started eating my cigarette cravings when I quit smoking. It's a never ending battle.

  6. Maybe your shirt SHOULD do Fly on the Wall. What an interesting post that would be. Kind of like if walls could talk, huh?

Good thoughts coming your way-losing weight is never easy. You have a great attitude about it-LOVE THE CARTOONS, especially the one about losing the water weight by crying...

  7. Thank you SO much, Sarah!!!
Yeah, I might have to use the shirt.... LOL

  8. Stacy, I LOVE this post! Your story is amazing and inspiring!! Holy moly--you had your tubes tied and STILL ended up pregnant?!? And the whole meds/diet thing--I hear you on that, girl! It is a daily, uphill battle and unfortunately one we must fight our entire lives. And as far as the jersey goes--oh, the stories that shirt could tell---definitely a Fly On The Wall post!

  9. Wow! Did you confront the surgeon that tied your tubes? That's crazy! My husband had a vasectomy weeks after I had my third child. At the time I had a preschooler, a 17 month old and a newborn, and my husband worked 60+ hours a week and we had one vehicle so I was stressed and overwhelmed to say the least. After the kids grew a bit and life was less overwhelming, I regretted the decision and wanted more kids. We saved up for several years and my sweet husband decided to undergo surgery to have the vasectomy reversed, however that was 2 years ago and so far no luck. :(

I like the Secret Subject Swap, that's a cool idea. And I'll be praying for you with your health issues. It certainly sounds like dieting and exercise would be more difficult with all that you're facing, but I'm impressed with your determination! My husband and I did P90X twice last spring/summer and he lost around 60 pounds (I didn't lose any weight, but dropped a couple of dress sizes). This winter he gained a little back and my clothes started to get a bit snug. I struggle with depression too but especially seasonally. I hate being cold and don't get out of the house much in the winter or feel motivated to work out. I keep telling my husband we need to move someplace sunny year round. (Wouldn't that be nice?)

Anyway, great post, I can't wait to read more! :)

  10. Thank you very much, Marcia!!
Yep. It seems that only the birth control that helped make me fat were the ones that kept me from getting pregnant.... LOL

  11. Oh Stacy, I understand so much of this. Thanks for being so honest..and I love the jersey! Our clothes could be Fly on the Walls!! I told my Dr. I'd sue him if he didn't tie/burn/destroy the tubes after our youngest was born. We had so many problems with pregnancies, I didn't think I could handle it. During one of my last procedures, another doctor mentioned that one of the clamps had fallen off of a tube. Can you imagine?
Wishing you luck on your healthy living..it is a lifelong battle.

  12. Thank you, Jen!!
We consulted a couple of lawyers but it seems that there was nothing we could.. Or at least no one that would take the case. But we figured it was fated. We needed Colin to make our family complete. And I am seriously hoping that we ARE complete now... Both my grandmothers had babies in their 40s so I am a little concerned about THAT! LOL
HUGS and prayers that the reversal works and SOON!!!
GOOD for you on the P90X! I have heard that is TOUGH!!!!!!!

  13. Thanks, Michele!! And HUGS!!!!!!!
My pregnancies were all complicated... I was on bed rest with 3 of the 5 for most of the pregnancies and in and out of the hospital with those 3. Colin was 5 weeks early. The odds of something going wrong with another pregnancy are HUGE. Scary!!!

  15. LOVE these cartoons babe, made me giggle. I have gained somuch weight with my son, mostly from all the hormones during IVF and my lack of self-control with food. it does feel good to share and let it go, especially with others who are so open and accepting.

I still have my wedding gown that I am still trying to get rid of...grrrrr

  17. Stacy, what a brave and wonderful girl you are.. I admire you.. homeschooling, moving with your jobs, and being sick with fibro also.. You do a great job.
I can tell you, the odds of getting pregnant after tubes being tied, clamped and burned, is --- Well, I would say, God wanted Collin here for a reason. That boy is amazing, and I expect to hear great things about him. You were suppose to have him in your family. How awesome!!
I pray for you with your dieting. It is so difficult ,isn't it? I was super skinny all my life, never had to diet..[tried to gain in the early years,]. I had my 2 kids and never gained weight.
I started gaining weight in my 40's.[yuck]. It seemed to gradually come on.. little by little.
Then all the health problems with it. I too-- have done the up and down weight loss thing.
It stinks, doesn't it? My last trip to the hospital with asthma, produced the knowledge of the beginning stages of diatbetes. I knew, I had to do something.. So dieting ,I am doing too![no fun]. I have lost about 25 pounds. and I need to loose more.. but, The last few weeks, I have regressed, and been eating things , I know I shouldn't..eeeeeeeeeeeh.. clothes are feeling
a little tight!!!!!! So.. thank you for the post, it made me realize, I need to tighten this ship up. and do better..
You are an encourager.. thank you and best wishes on your diet.
