Funny Friday - November 2014

November Funny Friday

Today’s post is November’s Funny Friday, a regular feature published on the last Friday of every month. Funny Friday is a collaborative project. Each month one of the participants submits a picture, then we all write 5 captions or thoughts inspired by that month’s picture. Links to the other bloggers’ posts are below, click on them and see what they’ve come up with. I hope we bring a smile to your face as you start your weekend.

Joshua (our 18 yr old)
Deanna (our 17 yr old)
Cailey (our 10 yr old)
Colin (our 7 yr old)

******************************************

Deanna - (after saying something crazy) It's like my brain has autocorrect and it hates me as much as it does on my tablet.

******************************************

Cailey to Deanna - Your breath smells like a wet frog.

******************************************

Deanna owed Cailey $3 and tried to pay her with only 4 quarters. Yeah, that didn't work out.....
Deanna - I miss the days when she didn't know how to count.

******************************************

When I decorated the house for Halloween, I put a life size cut out of a werewolf on the back on the front door. It was HILARIOUS to watch the kids react EACH and EVERY time they came down the hallway.

Joshua - No! No! You can't have that there! It almost gave me a heart attack!

******************************************

Cailey to Deanna - You are slower than a turtle in reverse.

******************************************

Deanna used a new face mask and scared Cailey and Colin half to death.

Colin - You look like a melting alien!!!

This was after Cailey telling her she needed Pro Active and Colin saying she should try X Out.

******************************************

The Hubby (while scrolling through the cable guide) - What is "King of Eggpie"???

Me - Honey, that says "King of Egypt".....

******************************************

Colin's opinion on Twister -

What the HECK kind of game is that?
What if you wrap your arms around your head and choke yourself?
What if you can't REACH the BLUE!!!
What if you break your leg because you can't put your foot on blue when they say put your foot on blue???

******************************************

That's about it, folks.
I am mending very well from the surgery I had last week. The doctor tells me that what happened to me "doesn't happen to normal people". HA! I had him fooled! He thought I was normal! We know better don't we??? ;)

Blog with Friends - Fun and Reversible Table Decor

Welcome to another edition of Blog with Friends!
This month we have 7 bloggers that have signed up to bring you some Thanksgiving fun! Look for all of them at the bottom of this post!

Thanksgiving Blog With Friends | Stacy Sews and Schools

When I started thinking about my Blog with Friends project I knew I wanted it to be something a little different. We've all seen all the tutorials for table runners, aprons, kitchen towels, oven mitts, etc. (that doesn't mean that I might not put my own spin on one of them one day soon) and I wanted something that I haven't seen before. That got me to thinking about circular decor items. I haven't seen anything like that except for knitted or crocheted items. Why not try sewing something circular!

So here you have it! The Fun and Reversible Table Decor! I didn't want to call it a runner since it doesn't run down the table and I didn't want to call it a mat, that sounds too boring. So I asked my Blog with Friends friends and that is the name we came up.

This is SO easy and SO fast. I think it took all of 20 minutes to make.

STEP 1 -

Fold your fabric in half and then half again.
Take your measuring tape and measure down both sides, marking the length you want.
Measure from the corner down, marking the same measurement as your sides.
Connect the marks and cut.

You can use the first cut as a template for the 2nd fabric. Makes it easier that way. ;)

This is what you should have.

STEP 2 -

Pin your circles right sides together. Make sure to leave an opening so you can turn it right side out.

Sew along the edges.

STEP 3-

Now you'll want to cut little marks in your seam allowance to allow for a neater look when you turn it right side out.

STEP 4-

Turn it right side out and press.

STEP 5-

Fold the fabric in where the opening is and press.

STEP 6-

Top stitch all around the edges (this closes that opening).

YOU'RE DONE!!! :D

The centerpieces in the picture were made from things I picked up at the Dollar Tree. It cost me about $10 to make all three.
I picked up 3 tins, 2 bags of gourds, 1 package of leaves and 4 fabric flowers.
I stuffed plastic bags into the tins and covered them with the leaves.
Then I mixed the 2 colors of gourds and put them on top.
Next, I cut the long stems down to just a few inches and placed them in the middle tin.
Easy peasy!

Don't forget to check out all the cool Blog With Friends projects listed below. If you have any Thanksgiving projects you'd like to share, feel free to add your link to the blog hop at the end of this post.

Use Your Words - November 2014

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

My words are:

wall ~ yard ~ coffee ~ cable car ~ recycling

They were submitted by: Eileen's Perpetually Busy

Gee, thanks, Eileen! Couldn't make them easy could you?? Just Kidding!!! Eileen knows I love her. She's my BFF!

I decided to go with another free association, they seem to work well for me.

WALL - Ok.. Can someone please tell me why landlords insist upon painting all the walls with FLAT PAINT??? OMG! I swear it's the bane of my existence! With 5 kids, no matter that 3 are grown or nearly so, they are IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean! It doesn't matter how often you wash them down, they are always dirty! Seriously, landlords, you would do better to use eggshell! You wouldn't have to paint between each renter! If I thought we would be in this house more than a year I would so repaint, deposit be damned!!!!

YARD - I love our yard. Well, mostly. The backyard is completely fenced in and at one time was well landscaped. Notice I said at one time.... You can see where it was but.... Whomever has lived here in the past few years let it go. We have NO grass! The leaves were left to rot and with all the trees we have, that's a lot of leaves! Joshua has been paid to rake and bag them but every time he gets them raked up more fall. LOL It's driving him crazy. I guess at this point he might as well wait a month and then finish it up. Hope that will get us some grass come spring!

COFFEE - BLECK!!! Yes, I said it. BLECK!!!!!! I hate coffee!! The Hubby, Jacob and Deanna all love it, so we are always buying new flavors. I wish I liked coffee! It's so much better for you than energy drinks (to which I have recently become addicted).

CABLE CAR - I have never been on one. Have you?? I would love to, though. I also want to go on a train ride. I want to travel more! I have never been west of the Mississippi River, north of Michigan or south of Georgia. I have never been out of the country. Maybe when the kids are all grown.....

RECYCLING - One thing that I absolutely love about my city is how easy they make it to recycle. You just sign up on-line and they will bring you the containers. Then every 2 weeks they pick them up! Easy peasy! I love it. BUT we need more containers... LOL We have 2 but they just don't hold all of our recyclables. We end up putting out numerous paperbags and boxes with our 2 large containers! You can purchase a large trashcan sized container but ummm... nope... They are expensive! So, even thought it looks tacky as all get out, we will continue to use the bags and boxes.

Now! On to all the other posts!
I wonder where my words ended up????

                     HAVE FUN READING!!!!!

I Am a Terrible Blogger

Usually I post on Monday (homeschool post), Tuesday (sewing post), Friday (monthly blog series) and Saturday (week in review). This week I have had nothing. Nothing at all since last Friday!!

Let me explain what's been going on...

I have been dealing with some mouth pain for at least a month now. It got worse and worse and worse.

When I took the kids to get flu shots I decided to ask the doctor for some antibiotics and pain meds, before going and seeing the dentist (my old dentist wouldn't touch my teeth if they were infected). I got the antibiotics (no pain meds) only to end up having an allergic reaction to them.

Off I went to the ER.

More antibiotics (still no pain meds) but then I ended up with an infection on the OTHER side of my mouth.
I gave up and called a dentist.

I went in to see him and we decided I should go to the oral surgeon.
More antibiotics (still no pain meds).

I go see the oral surgeon and we make plans to remove 2 of my teeth this Wednesday. SIGH.. BUT I finally got something for the pain other than ibuprofen!!!!!

It seems as though the teeth I had fillings in when I was a kid have become worse. Some the of the fillings have come OFF!! SIGH... And the issues are just too far down towards the gums for my dentist to save. :( Thankfully they are molars and won't be noticeable. Thank goodness for small favors!

Anyway, the infections and pain have set off the fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. On top of all of that, I am still busy running everyone to all the places that they need to go. To put it mildly, I am kaput. Worn out. Done in.

I will still have a post this Friday and next Tuesday. Other than those, I can't promise anything.
Just SO tired all the time.

Hopefully by this weekend I will be feeling much better and can get to some of the sewing I have been wanting to do!

Wish me luck!!!!!

Secret Subject Swap - November 2014

Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week, 12 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

Your “Secret Subject” is:

Your prompt is: You and four others are stuck in a room with no food or drink, only the clothes on your back. There is a number written on each person’s wrist and a piece of paper on the floor that says only "She is older than me".

It was submitted by: Someone Else's Genius

It’s cold and dark.

I am not alone. I can hear others stirring and breathing.

My eyes adjust to the dimness. I see shadows moving.

All at once there’s a brilliant light, blinding me for a second.

Where am I? Where are WE?? Now I can see that there are 4 other people.

The room is circular and I swear that it’s moving, undulating. A boat perhaps?

It’s an odd room. All white and silver.

Someone speaks. She asks the room, “What’s going on?”

No one answers. How can they?

Two of them start to move around, trying the walls and door. Nothing.

Wherever we are, we are stuck here until someone lets us out.

Time passes. I wish I knew how long.

We are getting thirsty and hungry. There’s nothing in here but us.

One person is crying, another is in a panic.

Something appears in the middle of the floor. I know it wasn’t there before.

It’s a note.
Someone reads it. “She is older than me.”

No one knows what that could mean.

I feel a burning sensation on my arm. I look down. There’s a number on the inside of my left arm. 4.

We start comparing numbers. 1-5.

There’s another flash of brilliant white light.

Number 1 is gone.

There’s even more crying and panicking now.

“What is going on” repeats around the room in varying degrees of hysteria.

More time passes.

We are tired, hungry, thirsty but mostly we are afraid. Terrified.

Another flash of light and number 2 disappears.

There are shrieks and cries from the 3 of us that are left.

Cold.

Tired.

Thirsty.

Scared.

Number 3 is gone.

I am next.

The End

This reminds me of a dream that The Hubby once had. We were newly married and living with his father who was very sick.

They both had a habit of talking in their sleep.

One night I wake up to The Hubby babbling. Well, I decided to have some fun.

The Hubby - He won’t let me in!

Me - Who won’t let you in?

TH - The little green man.

Me - Why won’t he let you in?

TH - He said I’m too old.
       Look! There he goes!

The Hubby’s Dad (who’s asleep in the next room - That’s OK. We’ll get him.

I about woke them up I was laughing so hard!!!

Now, don't forget to check out all of Secret Subject Swap posts! I wonder which one got mine!!!!!

Our Week in Review - Halloween Week 2014

WOW! It has been a very long week!!! Let's recap.

Saturday the 25th we went to the Frog Level Fall Festival and had a BLAST! This was one of things I missed so much when we moved away.

The kids had their faces painted, rode the horses, jumped in the bouncy house, met some farm animals, watched a parade, ate a lot of fair foods and just had a really great time.

The Hubby had me grab him some of the famous Brunswick stew from the volunteer fire department. He's set for a little while. ;)

The past few weeks have not been very good for me health wise. I have been battling a horrible toothache and infection. I finally went to be seen and get some antibiotics. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction to them and ended up in the ER. For a few days I did nothing but lie around and try to get better. That worked until Halloween. LOL Now I find myself taking a few steps backwards as far as getting better goes. So, with all that said, I may not have much in the way of blogging for next week. I have no projects and nothing put together as far as a new homeschool theme goes. SO SO SORRY!! I may try to cobble together a couple of round ups just to give you something to look at. ;)

Anyway, back to our week.....

We picked up a few more pumpkins and let Cailey, Colin and Deanna decorate them.

Colin's are the bat and skeleton. Cailey's are the cat and pirate. Deanna did the raven.

I tried to do some reading while waiting on cupcakes to cool.... Cloud had other plans.

Speaking of reading.... I am SO FAR behind on my challenges for the year! I started off with a bang! Sadly, life happened and my reading has fallen by the wayside. :/ I guess it doesn't help that several of the titles were more than 1,000 pages! LOL That's not good for a total count!!!

Those are the treats that I made last week.

The spider cupcakes were from a kit that I picked up at Michael's.

The witch fingers and pumpkins were from candy melts and molds.

And we went out for trick or treat, of course!!!

I bought a TON of candy to hand out but we only gave away about 1/2 of it. :(

The kids managed to nearly fill their bags!!! I wonder how long it will take for all the candy to disappear??

                      HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
