Blog with Friends - Creative Cupids - King and Queen of Hearts Crowns

Welcome to this month's Blog with Friends post!! This month we are the Creative Cupids and will be bringing you tons of Valentine's Day fun!!

For my part, I will be showing you how to make these King and Queen of Hearts Crowns. Just because I used a sewing machine doesn't mean YOU have to. You can use a glue gun or fabric glue to achieve something similar.

WHAT I USED

Sheets of felt in Valentine's Day colors
Iron on interfacing
Iron on stars
Plastic gems
Flower trim

STEP 1

Cut one piece of felt in half.

STEP 2

Sew the ends together.
Fold in half and sew a long seam.
Turn right side out.

STEP 3

Take a sheet of felt and cut the interfacing to fit. Iron on the interfacing.

STEP 4

Fold the piece in half and cut out 1 large heart.
Repeat until you have 2 large hearts with interfacing and 2 large hearts without interfacing.

Then cut 2 smaller hearts with interfacing and 2 smaller hearts without interfacing.

In a different color, cut 4 hearts without interfacing. These will need to fit on top of 2 large hearts and 2 smaller hearts.

STEP 5

Now, take your hearts and put 1 interfaced heart with one heart without interfacing, matching up the sizes.

Sew together with a close zigzag stitch.

STEP 6

Place the other color hears on top and zigzag stitch in to place.

STEP 7

Measure the long thin piece to fit your child's head.
Cut and sew the ends together.

STEP 8

Add embellishments to the hearts.

STEP 9

Glue the hearts to the band and add embellishments.

With the pink crown, I cut 1 large heart with interfacing and 1 without. Then I cut 2 smaller hearts with interfacing and 2 without.

ALL DONE!!

Easy Valentine's Day Decor

I have a SUPER fast and SUPER easy project for you today!! I did all 3 jars and the table runner in under an hour!!! AND I got everything but the fabric at the Dollar Tree! EASY! FAST! CHEAP!

The Table Runner

What I Used-

1/4 yard of printed Valentine's Day fabric (from Joann's)

1/8 yard of plain red cotton

Pinking shears

STEP 1

I measured out the length and width that I wanted for my runner.

STEP 2
Then I cut it using my pinking shears. (No need to hem it!!!!)

STEP 3

My iron threw up on my fabric. ;)

Then I pinned the red down the middle of the print and sewed it on with a straight stitch.

ALL DONE!!!!! I told you it was quick and easy!!!

The Jars

What I Used

I got the glittery heart stickers, foam heart stickers and chenille stems from the Dollar Tree!

Step 1

Cut the fabric pieces with pinking shears to the size of your jar.

Step 2

Hot glue the bigger piece to the jar.
Then hot glue the smaller piece of top of it.

Step 3

Hot glue ribbon around the top.

Step 4

Stick on the sticker.

Step 5

Since I had small jars, I cut the chenille stems in half.
Then I stuck the foam hearts on top.

ALL DONE!!!

See how easy????

Valentines Day

My subject is, If you had the chance, would you go to an ANTI VALENTINES DAY party and why?  It was submitted byhttp://dates2diapers2.blogspot.com   .

Here goes:

Would I??? WOULD I??? You bet ya!!!!!!! Why???? Well, let me fill you in on that.

SIGH....................

You would think that being a married person would mean that Valentine's Day would never suck again. And if you thought that way, you would be WRONG!!! Oh, so WRONG!!!!!

I have married a very practical, very unromantic man. I can count on one hand the number of romantic things he has done in the almost 22 years we have been a couple. SIGH.......

One year he even said, "But I thought Valentine's Day was just for kids."

Yes, people, I did let him live but it was  Very Close Thing.

At least if I went an Anti Valentine's Day Party, I would be around people that know how I feel! They would "get me". We could sit around and dis stupid St Valentine and Cupid until we felt better!

We could knock back a few drinks and play "Shoot Cupid with an Arrow" (like "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" only way more violent).

Yeah, that sounds like FUN!!!!

We could take a page from "Valentine's Day" and beat the heck out of a large, heart-shaped pinata!

Sounds like a good time to me!!!!

Now, before we all go and beat the snot out of The Hubby, I will tell you the most romantic thing he ever did.

It was Valentine's Day 2003. A few weeks before I had had life saving surgery. My gall bladder was sooooo bad that the doc said I would not have made it past the weekend (this is a whole other story where I rant and rave about our health care system).

The Hubby suggests that I call my Dad and see if they will babysit the kids that night. It was YUCKY out. I wasn't really feeling it but I agreed to call anyway. (Little did I know that he had prearranged this with my Dad.) Then I set out to take the kids to Dad's.

When I got back the house was empty! Hmmm... WTH??? Then I noticed a little box tacked to wall. WTH???

I opened the box and found a note. The note said to "go next door".

I went to his friend's house next door and he had another box for me. That one said "go to Kim's work".

I went to the store that my friend Kim worked at and she had another box for me. That one said "go to my work and look under the sink in the break room".

So off I go. I get to The Hubby's work and found ANOTHER box. This one said "Hampton Inn room 223".

I get there and knock on the door. The Hubby opens it and he actually had FLOWERS and CANDY and a stuffed BEAR!!!!

Who are you and what did you do with my husband????

It was the best Valentine's Day I have ever had.

SIGH.....

Maybe I should remind him of this???

SIGH......

Now, don't forget to check out the amazing bloggers who are sure to be MUCH more entertaining than I am!

Pleats Be My Valentine Tutorial

Pleats Be My Valentine

Once again, there seems to be a couple of steps missing in my pictures. I have been getting caught up in it and forgetting to take the pictures! SORRY!! But I can still walk you through those steps. ;)

What I Used -

1 yard of red poly blend knit - very light

1 1/2 yards of pink knit - thicker

1 yard of red jumbo rickrack

Headband -

1 group of fake roses from the Dollar Tree

1 stretchy headband from the Dollar Tree (sold in a group of 3)

hot glue gun

Pleats Be My Valentine 100

I took a tank that fits Cailey well and used it as my cutting guide. I wanted the top to have a very high waist so I let the top hang WAY off of the folded fabric.

Be sure to cut all the pieces on the fold!

Pleats Be My Valentine 101

Cut 2 front bodice pieces and 2 back bodice pieces.  (This shows 1 of each.)

Pleats Be My Valentine 103

To cut the sleeves, place one of your bodice pieces on the folded fabric with the shoulder lined up with the fold. Then cut at a widening angle. This will create sleeves that get wider as it goes down the arm.

I cut them to hit just below the elbow, not quite 3/4 length.

The next part to cut is the part from the bodice down. I apparently forgot to take a picture of this part, but it's very easy. You want it to be 2 times the total width of the waist and the length can be as long or as short as you like.  You just cut a large rectangle at those measurements.

Pleats Be My Valentine 106

To cut the leggings I used a pair of pants that fit Cailey well. I wanted them cut straight instead of flared, so I let the side of the pants hang off the fabric at the fold.  I cut them the same length as the pants, no seam allowance. Also, instead of cutting around and leaving a seam allowance, I cut right at the guide. This gives them a leggings fit instead of like a yoga pant.

For the pleats I cut 10 pieces of the red knit, 5" wide and the length was the total width of the fabric from selvage to selvage.  Make sense? You are going to sew the pieces together at one end until you have 5 VERY long pieces to pleat.  ;)

Now, on to the sewing!

Pleats Be My Valentine 109

Pin and sew the 2 front bodice pieces together at the areas outlined, making sure to leave the bottom open. Turn right side out and press.

Do the same to the back bodice pieces (shown).

Pleats Be My Valentine 111

Sew the front bodice piece to the back bodice piece at the areas that are outlined.

Turn right side out and press.

Pleats Be My Valentine 112 Pleats Be My Valentine 113

Here's a little hint... Sew the jumbo rickrack on BEFORE you sew the sleeves together..... LOL

I didn't decide to add the rickrack until the sleeves were already done....

Anyway, pin the rickrack to the bottom of the sleeve and sew on with a straight stitch.

THEN pin the edge of the sleeve and sew the seam. ;)

Open up the seam and press.

Pleats be my Valentine 114

Turn the bodice inside out and then leaving the sleeve right side out, slide it into the arm hole. Pin and sew the seam.

Pleats be my Valentine 117

Now, take one of your 5 LOOOOONG strips and start pleating. Fold, press, pin. Fold, press, pin.... FOREVER!!!! No, just kidding. It only FEEL like forever. ;) LOL

Pleats be my Valentine 120

To add the pleated strips to the bottom of the bodice you will pin the first set of pleats to the bottom of the fabric. Not the VERY bottom, though. Leave the the pleated strip hanging over the edge by 2 inches. Then sew across the top.

Keep adding the pleated strips until you reach the top, leaving each section hanging over the next by about 2 inches.

Depending on how long or short you want this part to be, you made need more or less of the pleated strips.

To add this part to the top of the bodice you will run a gathering stitch across the top (just under where you attached the last row of pleats). Then adjust the gathers to fit the bottom of the top bodice section.

Turn the top bodice inside out and slide it over the top of the pleated section. Pin in place where the bottom of the top of the bodice meets the top of the pleated section. Sew in place just below the line of gathers.

Now, turn the whole thing inside out and sew the side seam.

For the leggings I am going to refer you to the tunic and leggings tutorial I did about a month ago. The ONLY difference between the two sets are -

Before adding the rickrack to the bottom, turn under by 1 1/2" and press. Then pin the rickrack to the front and sew on with a straight stitch. This hems and adds the rickrack at the same time.

The rest of it is the same! :)

Pleats Be My Valentine 5

For the headband, I just pulled 3 roses and 3 sets of leaves off of the Dollar Store roses. Then I slide the leaves over the bottom of the roses and hot glued everything straight onto the stretchy headband. :)

Pleats Be My Valentine 1

She's holding the rest of the roses. LOL

Pleats Be My Valentine

Pleats Be My Valentine

SHEW!! Here it is!! FINALLY finished. 5 rows of pleats, people... 5 ROWS!!! LOL But it was worth it. ;) The top has great movement! I love it!

Pleats Be My Valentine 3

Pleats Be My Valentine 1

Pleats Be My Valentine 5

I made the headband from Dollar Tree supplies. ;) I took the roses off and hot glued them to the band. VERY simple!!!!

I was going to post this tomorrow but I want to hurry up and put it in the Project Run & Play Link Up for the sew along! LOL  The theme for this week is Valentine's Day.

I will be posting the tutorial for the top either tomorrow or Wednesday! :D
