Deanna - For some reason she can't say shopping cart. It always comes out at sharping cot.

Deanna - Apparently she had her shirt on backwards after getting out of the shower. She was quite put out when Cailey told her.

Deanna and Colin having a conversation about elves:

Colin - Do elves just work and work and work??

Deanna - Well, no. I guess they work in shifts so they can go home to their families.

Colin - Elves can get pregnant?!?!?!?

I was telling the kids about Elf on the Shelf.

Cailey - Why would we want that??? That's creepy!! I don't want some elf spying on me and making messes!!! Why would I want that????

Cailey - What are kindness elves??

Me - Sort of like Elf on the Shelf but instead of getting into mischief they help you do nice things for others.

Cailey - What kinds of things?

Me - Well, they might ask you to bake cookies for friends and neighbors or donate toys to kids that don't have very many. 

Cailey - Well, we have you for that. You do that stuff all the time.

Colin - Do you know what your poop smells like?

Deanna - Well, do YOU know what YOUR poop smells like?

Colin - NO, Deanna! I don't just go around smelling my poop! What do you take me for?

So, we were changing our Christmas tree from the old stand to the new stand. The reason for this was that we thought there must have been a hole in it since the presents were wet and the tree was dying.

I went to pull the old stand out so the guys would have more room and I turned it sideways.

The old stand did NOT have a hole in it. It still had water in it which then went alllll over the floor and The Hubby.....

I was trying to read something on my laptop and couldn't figure out why it was so blurry.

My reading glasses were on top of my head..... Yeah.........

I can't remember exactly how the conversation started but I know it went something like this.....

I was talking about all the weird illnesses that go around schools (my oldest 3 went to public school for a while).

Joshua says - Oh, yeah.. What about this weird red mark on the back of my neck?

Me - That's called a stork bite and it's been there since you were born.

Joshua - WHAT????? What is that??? I was just joking!! Why haven't I heard of that until now?????

Deanna was rubbing The Hubby's feet for him after a hard day.....

Deanna - I think you have a bloody booger on your toe.

The Hubby - WHAT??? That's General's Chicken! I kicked the box.

Deanna - Oh, thank goodness. I accidentally touched it.

I laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe.

Deanna - So, what did you ask Santa for?

Colin - A Creeper. A MINECRAFT Creeper, not a weird guy that sneaks around.

Deanna bought Cloud a sweater. I don't think she likes it... What do you think??

Sooo, we think our van might be possessed. Sometimes the windshield wipers come on by themselves. With the van off. While I am standing out side of it. Holding the keys. Yeah.....

I got the idea from Karen at Baking in a Tornado. She made these lovely Holiday Trees. I wish I had stuck to her idea! LOL  It was FABULOUS!!! Mine, not so much. ;)

Use Your Words - December 2014

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

So, I think I'll stick with the free association. It seems to work for me.

JOLLY -  So, I think of "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives but here are the thoughts of other people in the house.

The Hubby - Jolly Green Giant

Deanna - Jolly Ranchers

Cailey - Jelly

Colin - He did a little dance move. Then he said jellyfish.

MOODY - The Hubby. Why you may ask?? Because he has been on prednisone for a few weeks now. OMG!!! MOOOOOOOOODY!!!!!!

The Hubby - A guy at work. His last name is Moody.

Deanna - You (Meaning me.... Yeah...)

Cailey - A cow going mooooo!

Colin - Coooooow 

BULBS - Tulips. I love tulips. They are my absolute favorite flower.

Blog with Friends - Jolly Jinglers - Elf Hat and Shoes Tutorial

Welcome to the Jolly Jinglers edition of Blog with Friends!!! This month we have 8 bloggers joining together to bring you some holiday fun!!!!

For my part, I will be showing you how to make elf hats and shoes. Don't be scared, it was MUCH easier than I expected once I worked it all out. ;)

WHAT I USED - 

For 1 set 
1 yard of fleece
Ribbon in 2 colors
Stiff interfacing (you can use cardboard, poster board, etc.) 
Stuffing (you can use scrap fleece or whatever you like)
Freezer paper to draw my pattern


STEP 1 

I drew out my pattern and cut it out. The height is 17" and the width of the base is 10 1/2. This makes it big enough for Cailey (10), Colin (7) and myself. 

Fold the fleece in half. Place your pattern with one edge on the fold and cut.

I also cut a strip for around the bottom of the hat at 5" x 10". 


STEP 2

Now, pin your ribbon on the hat. I spaced mine out by 2".

Then sew on the ribbon. 


STEP 3

Now, fold the hat over, lining up the ribbon ends.
Pin in place and sew the side seam. 


STEP 4

Fold the strip in half and pin the cut ends to the bottom of the hat as shown.
Sew with a zigzag stitch while pulling slightly on the long strip.
After it is attached to the bottom of the hat, pin the ends of the long strip together and sew the seam.

Turn right side out and your hat is DONE!!!!! 

WOOOO HOOO!!!!

Now, on to the shoes!!!!!


STEP 1

Trace around your child's foot onto the freezer paper. This will be the pattern for the bottom of the elf shoes.
DO NOT TRACE their shoe!!!!!! LOL I learned this the hard way. It will make the elf shoes WAY too big and you will have to start alllll over again. ;)

Then draw out the sides of the shoes. I am TERRIBLE at drawing but that was easy. Don't be afraid to draw out your own patterns. If I can do it, anyone can. Seriously, I can't even draw stick people very well. ;)

Anyway, you want to keep the proportions similar to what I have drawn so that the tops of the shoes will fit around the bottom of the shoes.


STEP 2

Use your patterns to cut 4 sides and 4 bottoms. (One of the bottoms will go inside the shoe when it's done.)


STEP 3

Cut 2 of the bottoms from the interfacing, cardboard, poster board, whatever....


STEP 4

Pin and sew the heel seams and stop. If you are using a print, make sure the right sides are together.


STEP 5

Open up the sides and pin the bottom to it. You can pin one side and sew the seam or both sides and sew the seam, whatever you are comfortable with. 
In either case, do NOT sew the front of the shoe.
When pinning the sides, make sure both pieces meet in the center of the front of the bottom piece. Make sure to sew it securely.


STEP 6

Now, pin the rest of the sides together and sew the seam all the way up to the top.

Turn the shoe right side out!
Stuff the front all the way to the tip of the toes.
Insert your interfacing piece.
Now insert your extra bottom piece. 

Do all the steps again to make the 2nd shoe!!

Our Week in Review - Nov. 28th to Dec. 6th

Ok, so it's a little more than a week, don't be picky. ;)
We have been SUPER busy despite the fact that Colin's allergies are back in a big way. I swear, can't we have everyone in the house healthy at one time??? PLEASE?? What would it take???

Here's crazy Cloud. She still thinks she's a tiny kitten. I find her all over the house in the weirdest places!!! 

How he manages to get his food all over his face is a mystery to me. LOL

We went to pick out our tree the day after Thanksgiving. Colin got to help cut it down. 
I love the little tree farm! The elderly couple that own are super nice! The kids always get a candy cane and the gentleman always helps tie the tree to the top of the van. 
SO glad to be living back where we can go to them. 

Cailey and Colin helped decorate the tree. They LOVE that part so much!!!! 
BUT, can you see the tree listing to one side??? Right after this picture the tree fell over. EVERY single thing fell off except for one drum ornament. 
SIGH!!!!!!! 

This is how it looked the second time we decorated it.
Notice I said how it LOOKED.... Well, now it seems that we have a leak in our tree stand. All the water that we thought was sustaining our tree was actually pouring out all over the presents. 
ARGH!!!!
I bought a new stand but I haven't been able to talk anyone into helping me switch it out. It needs to be done quickly, though... Our tree is drying out!!

 We went to the Home Depot kids' workshop. Cailey and Colin love them so much. They got to make garden stakes for Christmas! They are now lining our walkway. ;)

We went to Bass Pro to see Santa. BUT (there's always a BUT) when we went to get in line we were told that they were handing out passes to see Santa at 3. It was 11:30. :/ Soooo, we went over to watch the fish feeding. After that we stayed for the craft.

I didn't want to drive home just to drive back to see Santa so I took the kids to get something to eat and do a little Dollar Tree shopping. 

We got back to Bass Pro at 2:30 and went to get in line. Here is where I had a "Christmas Story" experience....
We walk up and it looks like there's no one in line. I show the lady my Bass Pass. She says, "That's great but you need to get at the end of the line," and points behind me. 
I kid you not, the line was to the back of the store. 
INSANE!!!
An hour later the kids had finally gotten to see Santa.

They were SOOOOOO happy!!!!

Tomorrow will be the December edition of Blog with Friends!! WOOO HOOO!! The Jolly Jinglers!!!
My part will be a tutorial for the elf hats that the Cs are wearing PLUS elf shoes!! WOOO HOOO!!!

Then coming up soon, the tutorial for the houndstooth circle skirt that Cailey is wearing in the Santa pic.
