Our Week in Review - Pumpkins and an Eclipse

Well, we didn't actually do much this week. I wasn't feeling very well (fibro, toothache and earache). We didn't go to our classes this week. Not only was I not feeling well but Cailey's and Colin's allergies were crazy. :(

Anyway, here is what we DID do. ;)


On Saturday my friend and I took all of the little kids to the park to paint pumpkins. They loved it!!

                Those are their masterpieces! 

I am always up at 3 am at least 6 days a week (I hate it!!). So I was more than prepared to see the lunar eclipse. BUT that was the site I was greeted with! I just knew we were going to miss it!!!

Thankfully the skies cleared. I tried to wake all the kids up but only Cailey and Colin would get up. 

They thought it was the coolest thing ever!!! 

Afterwards I sent them back to sleep and they slept until about 10! LOL 

We spent the rest of the day reading about the moon. Their favorite book was The Best Book of the Moon. It covered everything!!!

I wanted to show you all this. Know what it is??? My grocery store receipt. Yep. It's taller than Deanna and she's 5'2"! This is for 2 weeks. Well, not exactly 2 weeks. I will have to go back a few more times for snacks and milk... And bread... And..... And....

Our Week in Review - Sept. 15-19, 2014

Usually when I sit down to write this up, I am thinking that we really didn't do a whole lot during the week or that maybe I didn't take enough pictures of the things we DID do. Then I start looking and remembering and realize that once again, I was wrong. 

That being said, we didn't do as much as I had planned, but that's not always a bad thing. ;)

Here's a look back at our week.

Deanna, Cailey and Colin sitting on the couch watching TV together. Ahhh, the moments when they aren't arguing are so precious! ;)

Colin is excavating a triceratops! (And making a big mess!) He still loves dinosaurs! 

We were reading about Leonardo da Vinci and how he painted frescoes. We decided to paint some ourselves. :D
Colin's is a battle scene. He even painted a siege tower like the one we made a couple of weeks ago. 

At one of our co-ops we did wet felting again. This time the kids made shooting starts in preparation for Michaelmas. 
Don't you just love our outdoor classroom???

In our other co-op the kids took their first Art & Architecture class as well as their first Geography class. 
I didn't get a picture of their art work (it was a collaborative effort) but I did get these from Geography! 

If you've known me for a while then you'll know how I love cows. Sure, they are being overshadowed by my love of owls these days but they are still there! I just had to have these cow cookies from World Market!!! LOL I haven't tried them yet but the others say they are very good. 
That reminds me! I need to try them before they are all gone!!!

See the sweet little bunny we found in our yard?? It never fails to amaze me at the wild life we find living just a couple of miles from the city limits. We live in a very busy area! Just because we aren't in the "city limits" does NOT mean we are in the country. Not here!! LOL This whole county is still "city". 


These are things that I remembered to take pictures of!!! LOL

I also got quite a bit of sewing in this week. WOO HOO!! You know what that means! Lots of tutorials coming up!!
I started on Cailey's Halloween costume the other day! I am thrilled with the way Anna's cape is taking shape!

Our Week in Review - Sept. 8-12, 2014

We had a lot going on this week, just not necessarily what you might call "school work".

We met up with one of our new homeschool groups and had a BLAST!!! 

The kids explored the creek in our local park. So much fun. Colin says he "survived a great adventure". He and Cailey walked the creek with the other kids while the other parents and I chose to take the path along the creek. 

Then we learned how to felt pumpkins and acorns! Even Deanna joined in the fun. ;)


Next week Cailey and Colin start their Art and Architecture class! We can't wait!

Our Week in Review - Outdoor Stuff

We have been CRAZY busy this week! Well, maybe I should say that *I* have been crazy busy.

On Saturday we took the 3 youngest kids fishing! They had a lot of fun, for a little while. I tried to tell The Hubby to not expect to be out there all day. Colin has a very short attention span. The Cs have been fishing before but never caught a thing! 

That is Colin's first fish!! YAY!!!

I spent most of the time visiting with my Dad since the kids were fishing his pond. 

We spent most of Saturday and Sunday away from home!

On Monday we went back to our favorite park but this time we explored a lot more areas!

We explored the lake area and feed the ducks and geese some of our snacks.

And Cailey fell in the lake! No worries, though... She thought it was fun and asked to do it again! LOL 

Then we explored the Nature Center.

SNAKES!!! BLECK!!!!!!!!!! Cailey loves ALL creatures. Bugs, spiders, snakes, it doesn't matter to her. 

They don't have as many things as the one in Richmond but the kids still enjoyed it.

I really liked the nature themed boxes. They had a ton of wonderful learning items in each box. Some of the items were real samples! Rocks, seeds, snake skins (BLECK!!!), bugs.... 

I managed to get some sewing done on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!

On the left is a sling strap cover that I made for a friend of mine that will be in a cast for at least 6 more weeks. :(

On the right is a sundress that I made for a friend's daughter to wear to her school's awards day. Now Deanna and Cailey both want one! DEANNA wants me to make her a DRESS!!!! I think pigs must be flying somewhere... 

On Tuesday and Wednesday (all night Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon) I got to babysit for a friend of mine. The sweet little baby that I made the green owl taggie blanket and letter V taggie as a gift. I had a great time cuddling a sweet little guy. I had been getting the baby itch and that helped out a lot! LOL 7 yrs is the longest we've gone between kids and Colin turned 7 in March! 

SHEW!!!! It was a LONG week!! I took Thursday as a bum around day and caught up on some reading. Friday is errands day. Grocery shopping, paying bills... BLECK!!!!

We were hoping to go to the botanical gardens on Friday, Public Gardens Day, but it rained and rained and rained. WAH!!!!!!

Week in Review - Easter Week 2014

This has been a rather long week for me. The past weekend was fine. Monday was fine... It was after that! Chronic fatigue set in hard. BLECK!!! And now that the week is ending I seem to be going into a fibro flare up. NO FUN!!!!! So, please, please, please excuse me for the lack of posts this week (and possibly into next week). 

Cailey and Colin had a very fun Easter. The day before Easter Cailey and Colin dyed their eggs. They love doing that so much. 

The Easter Bunny came and then the big kids and I hid about 60 eggs for Cailey and Colin to find.

On Monday we went to a VERY nice park that's about 30 minutes from here. I actually used to take the older kids there years and years ago when we lived here before. 

They had a blast! For most of the time they had the entire place to themselves. 

That's just about all that we accomplished this week. The kids watched a lot of educational shows.... Sometimes you do what you have to do... 

Deanna, Cailey and Colin have been suffering from allergies. Thankfully they aren't tooooooo bad yet. 

I do have some sewing that I want to do as soon as this flare up is over. Cailey and Colin are both in need of some warm weather clothing!!! I have a couple of patterns that I want to get to before Cailey grows anymore! LOL As it is she is probably too tall for most of them. She is a size 10 in height but size 10s are always too loose. 

Next week in homeschooling we will start working on our Plants unit and continuing with Pirates (scroll down). 

At some point in the next few days I should be putting up a couple more homeschooling units. 

Our Week in Review : Worms and Pirates

We've had a busy week but it was so much fun!!!  We started worms and pirates! :)




Here are some of the activities we did. 

We bought some nightcrawlers at the local market and studied them with our magnifying glasses. 

Then we went outside and dug up some earthworms. 

The next day we compared the earthworms and nightcrawlers.

We then separated the worms. The earthworms stayed in the plastic container. The nightcrawlers were divided into 3 container, a jar, a plastic bottle and their original container. 

Here they are viewing the worm tunnels. 

They drew a diagram of worm anatomy after we read Yucky Worms.

One of the books we read was Diary of a Worm. I had the kids draw a picture from the story.

Our read aloud story for worms is The Worm Whisperer.

The Hubby brought wooden boxes home from work the other day and I thought they would be perfect for treasure chests! A great way to start our pirate unit!

Colin painted his brown with purple designs, adding a "gold key lock" on the front.

Cailey took artistic license and made hers very colorful.  

We read Captain Abdul's Pirate School and drew treasure maps! We brushed some tea on them to age them.

Not a bad week! Ok, so it was actually 3 days... We skipped Monday and I am writing this on Thursday. Oh! But we can count our Mud Pies day, right?? We can say they were researching worms.
