Use Your Words - June 2015

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

I’m using:
Response ~ against the wall ~ Greek ~ charge ~ turtle ~ blood flow

They were submitted by: Confessions of a part time working mom

Tom was an average guy living an average life.

He had a good but boring job. He lived in a nice but boring house.
Tom lived by routine. He got up at 6 am every single day. He would get dressed in the same button downs and navy slacks. He would have the same oatmeal for breakfast.
Same, same, same, boring, boring, boring.
One morning shortly before his 38th birthday Tom managed to get a really good look in the mirror. The response was immediate.
Was that him?? When did his hair start graying and thinning?? And are those wrinkles forming around his eyes???
He felt as if he was against a wall
What happened? It seemed as if he was awaking from a dream!
He decided then and there that he was making a change!
He called into work. He had never missed a single day! Well, now he was cashing in that vacation time!
He was heading out on an adventure!!! CHARGE!!!!!!
He was going to California to fulfill a childhood dream. He was going to learn to surf!!
Sure, surfing was all Greek to him but he was certain he could pick it up in no time.
He's all set! He has everything he needs!

He sits back and watches the surfers. He thinks he has the gist of it.
He decides to head out into the water.
He's paddling out like nobody's business.
Wait! What is that?? Is it a sea turtle??
It IS a sea turtle!
Tom stops and tries to pet it.
BLOOD FLOW!!!!! Blood spurting!!!
While he was focusing on the turtle SOMETHING bit him!!!!
That's it! He's done!
Out of the water!
Off to the ER.
A few stitches later he is on his way back home.
Routine is good he thinks.
Boring works well for him.

  4. Poor Tom. . . the one time he ventures out . . .
Thanks for the fun story and the laugh, great use of your words!

  5. Love that my words took you - or Tom for that matter - to California :-)
Too bad he got injured and decided adventures were probably not for him!

    1. LOL Yeah, I knew what I needed to do with those words!! Thanks for giving me such great ones!!! :D

  6. Poor Tom~ What a sad end to a great adventure. Hopefully he gets his nerve up again and has better luck next time.
Routine is good, but we all need to shake it up once in a while.

  7. People always joke about my life and say "At least it was never boring" I would take boring and routine ANY DAY. Great story!

    1. Thanks,
I have heard that same joke before myself. I think there's a nice in between somewhere.

  8. Did the turtle bite him? I hear they can be aggressive.

I'm pretty satisfied with routine, but mixing it up every now and then keeps life worth living. Well done with your words!

  9. I know I shouldn't but I LOL seriously! Here I was all caught up in the boring guy taking a chance and doing something "off the cuff" and BAM he gets bit! Great job

    1. LOL!! That's EXACTLY the reaction I was looking for!!! ;)

I <3 comments!! Thank you so much for taking the time! :)
