Funny Friday - May 2015

Today’s post is this month’s Funny Friday, a regular feature published on the last Friday of every month. Funny Friday is a collaborative project. Each month one of the participants submits a picture, then we all write 5 captions or thoughts inspired by that month’s picture. Links to the other bloggers’ posts are below, click on them and see what they’ve come up with. I hope we bring a smile to your face as you start your weekend.

Funny Friday 150 X 150.jpg

Here’s today’s picture. It was submitted by Spatulas on Parade.

1. After the surfing "accident" Tom no longer cared about the other shoe.

2. I've heard of people running out of their shoes but usually they go back for them.

3. I've heard that flip flops are the glass slipper of the south... Maybe Cinderella is real!!!!

4. She tried to tell him not to wear socks with the flip flops but he just wouldn't listen. Now one of the flip flops has gone on strike.

5. Ahh, the flip flop blow out. Just like the remnants of tires on the interstate.

It has been quite a month around here! Well, maybe not as crazy busy as we usually are... We've still been keeping things more low key while watching to see how Colin will do. (He's doing GREAT!!)

But here are a few of the things that we HAVE done.

We got a piano!!! Now we just need lessons! LOL I used to be able to play simple melodies and read music. I am trying to remember all of that!
The Hubby loves auctions! We picked this up at an estate auction for $20!! AND it's in tune!!!!!

At another auction I got 2 vintage Singers and a vintage sewing box. I need to take pics of them and show you all!! :D

We've had some beautiful days lately. We finally decided to take advantage of them and head out to see some friends in the country. It was the first time that Colin had been out and about since he got out of the hospital. It was also the first time that he got to play with other kids.

We went to our very first baseball game!! YIPPEE!! Someone in one of our homeschool groups had 50 FREE tickets!!! We jumped right on that! Good thing, too because those tickets went very quickly!!!
We did the normal baseball things. We had hot dogs! LOL

And some other treats! ;)

Cailey and another girl from our group got to go out on the diamond and race for prizes for the season ticket holders. They were so nervous but had a good time with it.

Some of the other kids in our group got to run with the pig (don't ask) and they gave everyone pig noses.

I had a really good Mother's Day. The Hubby and Deanna made breakfast. Food is SO MUCH better when you don't have to make it yourself. ;)
Deanna got me a gorgeous bunch of flowers. Nice and colorful just the way I like them.
Joshua got me a GIANT card and 5 pairs of the coolest owl socks you can imagine!!!
Jacob got me a sparkly card with butterflies on them.
Cailey and Colin (The Hubby) got me a $100 Visa gift card which I then used on the fabric below! ;)

These are going to make some really cute things for Cailey.

These will make some awesome pajamas for Colin!

Not sure what I will use these for but I'm sure I'll think of something. ;)

This was my first online fabric buying. I am sold! The Fabric Fairy has the cutest printed knits!! It's sooooo hard to find those at Joann's and Hancock's, especially for boys!!!!

Our toadpoles have legs!!!! YAY!!!! :D We have toadlets! LOL

So that's what we've been up to!! Oh, and this stuff HERE

Don't forget to click the links at the top!!! :D

Use Your Words - May 2015

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

I’m using:
looked back ~ heartbeats ~ incensed ~ secret ~ you are going to die

They were submitted by: Someone Else's Genius

It was a dark and stormy night. (Ok. Really it was a bright, starlit night but how scary are they?)
Tommy and Betty were out driving, trying to get lost. (You know what I mean.)
They drive out a long, lonely, country road and find a place to "park". (Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.)
They are just getting friendly when off in the distance they hear screaming. (SIGH. Just when things were getting good.)
They debate. Someone playing a joke? Someone in trouble? Do they go see?
Well, you know how it goes. They have to go see.
Tommy starts up the car. They start down the road, headlights on high beam.
Just ahead they saw a shimmering light. Their heads grew heavy and their sights grew dim. They had to stop for the night.
Oops. Sorry. Got carried away again.
Betty looked back the way they came and saw a shadow on the side of the road.
She yells at Tommy to stop the car! (You just know that's a bad idea!!!!)
Betty and Tommy's heartbeats sped up!
What was that hulking, looming thing??? (Just stay in the car!!!!)
Tommy tells Betty that he's going to get out and see if anyone needs help. (Don't do it, Tommy! Don't do it!!)
Betty begs him not to. (Sigh... You know he will any way.)
Tommy gets out. He tells Betty to lock the doors and stay in the car. (He really should take his own advice.)
Tommy walks back down the road. Just as he gets to the part of the road where he is sure he saw someone.... (Well, you can guess, right??)
It's over for Tommy. He is nothing but a bloody mess on the side of the road.
Betty starts to get nervous just sitting in the car. (Well, she should be, shouldn't she?)
She rolls down the window. She sticks out her head. (Really bad idea!!!)
She comes face to face with the Heart Shaped Mouse Pad Killer!!!
He is incensed!! She has seen his secret!!!
He says to Betty, "You are going to die!!!!!"

You can find the first part of this story here - Use Your Words - February 2015 - Friday the 13th

Sometimes I get  my words and I think to myself, "I know exactly what I'm going to do with those!" Other times I haven't got a clue. This time was a mix. I knew what I wanted to do but I didn't know if I had the writing chops to pull it off. You'll be the judge. LOL

Blog with Friends - May Flowers

It's that time again!! Time for Blog with Friends!!! This month we are bringing you flower related projects and posts.

For my project I put together this little flowered table runner. It's a super fast and easy project.

What I Used

1 1/2 yards of green dots
1 package of felt flowers
Pinking shears

Step 1

First, I folded the fabric in half, selvage to selvage.
Then I trimmed it along both sides with the pinking shears.
I also took a few inches off the ends.

Step 2

Then I sewed a straight stitch along all the edges.

Next, I placed the flowers until I had them the way I wanted them.

Step 3

Then I sewed the felt flower buttons down just like I would a regular button.

ALL DONE!!! Told you it was easy! ;)

I also put together the flower centerpiece. I made a trip to The Dollar Tree and used only stuff that I found there. SUPER cheap, SUPER easy!!!!
I bought several flowers (they had the butterflies with them), the metal tub, and a green foam rectangle. Then I separated the flowers and stuck them in individually.

Check out ALL the posts for this month's Blog with Friends!!!! So much awesomeness!!!!!!

Karen from Baking in a Tornado has the CUTEST flower cookies!!! LOVE THEM!! She's a baking genius!!!!!

Robin at Someone Else's Genius is going to show you how to make these gorgeous beaded barefoot sandals. SO beautiful!!

That's it for this month!!! I hope you enjoyed it! :)

HAVE FUN CREATING!!!!!!

May Flowers Wreath DIY

I was in desperate need for something for my front door after Easter. I wanted something that I could use for a while and not have to worry about it.
Finally I got this idea in my head about using an old watering can and flowers!
Off I went to the craft stores to see what I could find.

I hit the jackpot at Michael's. They had just what I wanted!

What I Used

1 foam wreath thing
1 silver watering can/pitcher
1 spool of green ribbon
1 spool of burlap
Leftover green felt ribbon
3 flowers
Hot glue gun

Step 1

Start wrapping the burlap around the foam wreath form. Make sure to overlap it so you can't see through the burlap.

Step 2

Hot glue the end in place.

Step 3

Loop the ribbon through the handle of the watering can/pitcher and hot glue in place.

Cut a piece of ribbon and make a loop. Hot glue it to the back of the wreath.

Step 4

You should probably do this step before the last step but I didn't know I was going to add the green felt ribbon until I was done. ;) It just didn't look finished so I sent a pic to Eileen from Eileen's Perpetually Busy and asked her what she thought.
She suggested adding the green ribbon. She was so right! It makes a big difference.
Anyway, just wrap the green ribbon around, making sure to hot glue in place.

Step 5

Add the flowers and you are DONE!!!!!

A simple but elegant addition to your front door! :D One that you can use all spring AND summer if you want!

HAVE FUN CRAFTING!!!!!

Your words are: gripping ~ constant ~ always in a pickle ~ which way is up? ~ relief ~ light

They were submitted by: http://batteredhope.blogspot.com

Let me tell you a gripping story about how life was when my oldest son was a little guy.
He was quite hyper from the time he learned to walk (at 8 months) and was always in a pickle!! I had to stay on constant alert. He was fearless!!!!!

One day I started the washing machine, put in the detergent and went to get the clothes. When I came back with the clothes he was IN THE WASHER!!! Soap suds all over him. He was 1. How he managed to climb up the side of the washer I'll never know!

Most days I didn't know which way was up!

He once crawled inside the dryer and shut himself in. I was running all over the house yelling his name. I finally heard him calling for help.

One day when he was 5, he managed to open his bedroom window and jump out!! I saw him run past the living room window and was out the door after him.

I have endless stories of ER trips and broken bones! Illnesses and injuries!

I can't tell you what a relief it was to get that child into adulthood!! I can still remember when I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I tell him that he is responsible for every grey hair on my head!
